Marital problems

Below advice from Shaykh Abdur Rahman

What I have observed after counseling many marital problems is that many times the mother in-law and daughter in-law are two perfectly fine human beings when in their own surroundings; put them together and that’s when things start.

Although, it is highly virtuous and rewarding act for a woman to live with her in-laws and help out, the Shari’a has given her rights to an individual private accommodation consisting of a bedroom, cooking area and bathroom. Many husbands, even the practicing ones, are not aware of this.

Perhaps young Muslim men should be advised before marriage to make sure they are able to support a wife in a separate shelter before marrying, and have patience until they can

I think this statement will cause an even bigger problem…

My 13 year old son asked me, “Why do men plan and invest to buy a new car for $50,000 with no bargaining, and pay insurance on top of that, but they aren’t willing to invest in their wife and her mahr like that? She’s the one staying with him in the hereafter!” Mashallah,There’s a lesson for our brothers in that. I hope he keeps that in mind when he marries.
