The Effects of Names on Personality (and on Belief)
Among the four paternal uncles of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless Him and give Him peace) who were alive after their nephew received prophecy, two embraced Islam and two did not.

The two who embraced Islam had names that were not antithesis to Islam: Hamza and ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). The other two were Abu Talib, whose name was ‘Abd Manaf (Slave of Manaf), and Abu Lahab, whose name was ‘Abd al-Uzza (Slave of ‘Uzza).

They were not honored with belief. Names have an effect.

  • Might also be worth mentioning that “Munaf” is the name of an idol and not to be kept by Muslims. This name is stil used by many Asian Muslims.
