The sincere and well meant intention of maintaining ties for the sake of kinship and knowing you will make your relative happy despite the financial cost or time involved will make your efforts of attending a function worthwhile, which Allah makes worth your while in this world and in the hereafter.
Mufti Abdur Rahman stresses the importance of following the sunnah method of weddings and warns people to avoid placing a burden on themselves by following trends for show. Shaykh supports those who have the means to host an extravagant feast and want to feed out of the happiness in their hearts to lay out a spread as long as it is not done to keep up appearances with other weddings and out of fear of what people will say. Key aspects of a wedding are covered including wedding dresses, free mixing, haram practices on stage, and support of halal practices and the importance of the correct intention on the day are stressed to the blessings of the union.
Mufti Abdur Rahman relates a story of a man who had a hefty mortgage on his home and wanted to get out of interest based repayments but did’t earn enough. He prayed to Allah in the month of Ramadan to relieve him of his debt with astounding results.
The extreme power of Allah (swt) is highlighted and we are reminded of Allah’s ongoing help throughout our existence to powerful effect.
